Renowned makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad has died at the age of 61. He passed away early Saturday morning at Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai, after being hospitalised for blood pressure issues three days earlier.
His younger brother, Dr. Prasanna Paranjpe, said Vikram was doing fine when admitted, and the family was shocked by his sudden death. The cause took everyone by surprise.
Gaikwad was one of the most respected names in the Indian film industry. His makeup work shaped characters in hits like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Sanju’, ‘Dangal’, ‘Tanhaji’, and ’83’.
He bagged National Awards for ‘The Dirty Picture’ in 2012 and ‘Jaatishwar’ in 2014. His skills touched Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and South Indian cinema alike.
Many, including Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, paid tribute to his talent. Shinde called Gaikwad a “magician” who brought on-screen characters to life.
Gaikwad’s cremation will take place at Shivaji Park crematorium, Dadar. The film world, and fans, are mourning the loss of a quiet genius who worked behind the scenes.
