Two stand-up shows by comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi in Lucknow were cancelled after police denied the required No Objection Certificate (NOC). The decision was made following concerns raised by Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission Vice Chairperson Aparna Yadav.
Yadav pointed out Bassi’s past performances, where he allegedly used inappropriate language, especially towards women. She urged authorities to ensure such content wasn’t promoted in public events.
The shows were set to take place on Saturday at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan. However, police cited potential law and order concerns as the reason for not granting approval.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Radharaman Singh confirmed the cancellation, emphasizing that the decision aimed to maintain public order.
In a letter dated February 14, Yadav referred to Bassi’s social media videos, calling his language “indecent” and “undignified.” She urged a crackdown on such performances.
She also pushed for a review of future events at the venue, arguing that public performances should not mislead or negatively influence the youth.
The cancellation has sparked discussions on artistic freedom versus public decorum, leaving fans and critics divided on the matter.
