Vir Das Trolls Cannes Dress Code With Hilarious Gown Post

Vir Das is not one to stay quiet when it comes to fashion rules—especially if they’re as strict as Cannes’ new dress code for 2025. The comedian took a massive jab at the festival’s new policies by posting a wild parody on Instagram.

The event now reportedly discourages everything from flashy, oversized gowns to see-through fabrics and long trains. But Vir wasn’t having it.

He posted an edited pic of himself wearing a giant, nude-colored gown with a dramatic train, mocking every banned item on the list. His caption read, “Large, voluminous, nude, long train. In your face #CannesFilmFestival. You don’t know what you are missing.”

This isn’t Vir’s first dig at Cannes. Earlier, he jokingly “withdrew” from the event, claiming he couldn’t attend because of the wardrobe crackdown.

He claimed nude voluminous gowns are part of comedy culture. He also described his canceled “78-foot-long beige outfit” in dramatic fashion and took a shot at Cannes by saying he wouldn’t let “our culture be shunted.”

Fans loved the cheeky protest. Whether Cannes is laughing or not, one thing’s for sure—Vir Das just stole the red carpet spotlight without even walking on it.
