Trinetra Steps Into Thriller World with ‘Kankhajura’

Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju is a woman of many talents—she’s a doctor, actress, singer, and even an artist. Now, she’s diving into a psychological thriller series called ‘Kankhajura,’ dropping May 30 on SonyLIV.

In this show, Trinetra plays Amy, a complex character who brings both fire and fragility. The series is adapted from the Israeli show ‘Magpie,’ but with a local Goan twist.

Trinetra watched the original series to understand the story better, not to copy it. She praises the team for giving Amy a unique Indian flavor.

Roshan Mathew stars opposite her, a dream come true for Trinetra, who’s been a fan of his work. Though nervous in the beginning, she said they quickly found a good rhythm while shooting.

Actor Mohit Raina and longtime friend Sarah Jane Dias also share screen space. Directed by Chandan Arora and shot by acclaimed DOP Rajeev Ravi, the show had its chaotic Goa moments but created a safe space for intense acting.

Trinetra, a proud trans woman, has overcome personal battles and is now using her platform to call for better healthcare for the trans community. She says healthcare for trans people in India still has a long way to go.

While global shifts in diversity policies trouble her, she feels India is still ahead of the U.S. in some ways. Trinetra isn’t just acting—she’s advocating, and she’s not slowing down anytime soon.
