Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal Push for Women in Cinema

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal have announced the second edition of Undercurrent Lab, aiming to empower more women in filmmaking. The 2025 program will expand on its first edition, which trained 10 women in the art of cinematic lighting.

The first lab was a hands-on workshop where participants received direct mentorship from top cinematographers. Many graduates went on to work in major film productions, proving the initiative’s success.

Richa expressed her excitement, calling the first edition “inspiring.” She noted how the program helped participants gain both technical skills and creative confidence.

Some trained women even joined the nearly all-female crew of Girls Will Be Girls, reinforcing the initiative’s impact. This success has motivated them to expand the program further.

For 2025, Undercurrent Lab will introduce training in broader aspects of film production. The goal is to help more women break into the competitive industry.

Chadha believes this initiative will lead to more inclusive storytelling. With more opportunities and confidence, the future of women in cinema looks brighter than ever.
