Raj Khosla Films Return to Big Screen for One-Day Celebration

The Film Heritage Foundation is bringing back the magic of Raj Khosla, one of India’s most legendary filmmakers, with a one-day film celebration on May 31 in Mumbai. The event, called ‘Raj Khosla 100 – Bambai Ka Babu’, marks 100 years since his birth.

Three of Khosla’s iconic movies will be shown at Regal Cinema— “C.I.D.” (1956), “Bambai Ka Babu” (1960), and “Mera Gaon Mera Desh” (1971). Two of these have been beautifully restored in 4K resolution for the occasion.

This celebration isn’t just about watching films. A panel discussion will take place, featuring big names like actress Asha Parekh, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, and author Amborish Roychoudhury.

Film Heritage Foundation director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur described Khosla as the Howard Hawks of Indian cinema, known for directing across all genres. He highlighted Khosla’s focus on strong women characters and iconic song sequences.

Asha Parekh credited Khosla for taking her beyond glamour roles with movies like “Do Badan”. She said working with him helped audiences see her as a serious actress.

Mahesh Bhatt shared heartfelt words, saying Khosla’s influence on him is like starlight—his films still glow even though he’s no longer around. Cinema lovers in Mumbai now have a rare chance to witness that light once again on the big screen.
