Comedian Kunal Kamra has publicly apologised to fans after reports surfaced of police notices being issued to people who attended his stand-up show. The show, ‘Naya Bharat’, has sparked a wave of controversy over comments made about Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
One Mumbai banker who went to the show was reportedly summoned as a witness. The man had to cut a vacation short due to a police notice, according to media reports.
Kamra posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I’m deeply sorry for the inconvenience.” He even offered to plan a vacation for affected fans anywhere in India, keeping a sarcastic tone.
Police have denied summoning audience members, but Kamra is still in hot water. Multiple FIRs have been filed against him for calling Shinde a “traitor” during his act.
Kamra isn’t backing down, though. His 45-minute video has already hit 12 million views on YouTube, and he’s made it clear that he won’t apologise for his content.
He has been asked to appear before the Mumbai Police on April 5, after ignoring two earlier summons. Kamra lives in Tamil Nadu now, but his comedy continues to shake up his hometown.
