Actor Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar have settled their long-running defamation case. They appeared in a Mumbai court on Friday and informed it about their mutual decision to withdraw complaints against each other.
The case dates back to 2020 when Akhtar accused Ranaut of defaming him in an interview related to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. In response, Ranaut filed a counter-complaint, alleging that Akhtar had threatened her in 2016.
Both parties agreed to mediation, which lasted about an hour. Ranaut acknowledged that her statements were made due to a misunderstanding, and she apologized to Akhtar for any inconvenience caused.
After the court session, Ranaut shared a photo with Akhtar on social media. She mentioned that the lyricist was kind during the mediation and even agreed to write songs for her next film.
Akhtar’s lawyer confirmed that the case was finally resolved after multiple discussions. Ranaut’s lawyer also stated that both sides were willing to settle and had been working on the mediation for a long time.
The court is expected to formalize the settlement later. With this resolution, one of Bollywood’s most public legal battles has officially come to an end.
