Javed Akhtar's Fiery Comment: 'Hell Over Pakistan'

Javed Akhtar, the well-known lyricist and screenwriter, set off buzz at a book launch in Mumbai with a bold statement. He was speaking at the release of MP Sanjay Raut’s book, ‘Narkatla Swarg’.

During his speech, Akhtar said he often faces abuse from both sides—extremists from different ideologies can’t seem to agree on anything but hating him. “One calls me a kaafir, the other a jihadi,” he said plainly.

He added that both ends of the spectrum throw insults his way, but he also gets love and support from many. “If only one side stopped abusing me, I’d wonder if I did something wrong,” he joked.

Then came the statement that made headlines. Akhtar said, if his only two choices were between Pakistan and hell, he’d rather choose hell. This came in response to critics from both ends questioning his loyalty and faith.

The event had a full house, with political heavyweights like Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, and Saket Gokhale in attendance. The book, written by Sanjay Raut, focuses on the ups and downs of his political life.

Akhtar’s comments may stir controversy, but they reflect his life-long stance—say what you believe, no matter the heat. And true to form, he’s not holding back.
