The team behind the film ‘Jaat’ has issued a public apology and removed controversial scenes after facing backlash from the Christian community. The film stars Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda.
Trouble began when a scene showed Randeep Hooda in a way that resembled Jesus Christ inside a church. Some viewers felt this mocked Christian symbols and the use of the word ‘Amen’.
Vikas Goldy, a Christian community leader in Jalandhar, filed a police complaint on April 15. He claimed the movie insulted Christian beliefs.
As the issue picked up steam, Jalandhar police acted quickly. An FIR was filed against the actors and filmmakers on Thursday evening.
The filmmakers responded by editing out the disputed scenes. They also posted a written apology on social media, saying they never meant to hurt anyone.
Leaders from the Christian community said they’ll watch the edited version before taking further action. The controversy may be cooling off, but the final word is still to come.
