Are you eagerly waiting for the release of “Jodi,” the romantic comedy historical drama film featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Nimrat Khaira? Well, unfortunately, the Ludhiana court has put a hold on the movie’s release, which was scheduled on May 5, 2023.
Jodi Movie is not ban but it is put on hold by court in India. However, the movie has been released in other countries on 5 May as planned. If you’re wondering why this has happened, here’s the real reason behind it.
The Ludhiana court order was passed in response to an application filed by Ishdeep Randhawa, who claims that the movie is based on the lives of Amar Singh Chamkila and Bibi Amarjot Kaur. The film rights for the couple’s biography were legally acquired by Ishdeep’s father, Gurdev Singh Randhawa, who has now passed away.
The plaintiff alleges that his father had a formal agreement with Gurmail Kaur, Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife, where he paid Rs 5 lakh to obtain the right to produce any movie on the couple.
After Gurdev Singh Randhawa’s death, his legal rights were passed on to Ishdeep and Sanjot Randhawa, along with his wife Jaspreet Kaur. They filed a court application to restrict the release of the film, claiming that it would result in “irreparable loss” that cannot be compensated for. The court has postponed the release of the movie and scheduled a hearing for May 8, 2023.
Gurdev Singh Randhawa, the father of Ishdeep Randhawa, was a renowned director and producer in the Punjabi film industry. He owned a filming ranch with traditional Punjabi scenery outside Patiala and a production company.
‘Film Di Saari Team Ne Baut Hardwork Kita.. Aapa 100 Per Cent Dita Sareyan Ne.. Par Kisey Kaarn Eh Film Aj India Ch Release Nahi Ho Rahi.. Jo Jodi Da Intzaar Ka Rahe C Ona Ton Maafi.. Sareyan Nu Pyar Te Satkar’. ‘Film’s crew has done a lot of hardwork and delivered their 100 Per cent but due to some issues Jodi won’t release in theaters today. I apologize to each and everyone who were waiting for Jodi’s release.’,
Diljit Dosanjh
The movie “Jodi” is written by Amberdeep Singh and co-produced by Daljit Thind and Karaj Gill under Thind Motion Films and Rhythm Boyz Entertainment banners. It is set in Punjab in the 1980s and follows the story of two talented musicians as they revamp the Punjabi folk music scene while their love blossoms, shrouded in mystery and intrigue.
Interestingly, another movie depicting Amar Singh Chamkila’s biography and starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, called “Chamkila,” has also faced a delay in release by a Ludhiana court. Imtiaz Ali, the movie’s director, and the leads have been summoned to appear before the court on May 3, 2023, in response to an application filed by Ishdeep Randhawa on March 21, 2023.
In conclusion, the release of “Jodi” and “Chamkila,” two highly anticipated Punjabi movies, have been postponed due to legal complications. While fans eagerly await their release, the courts will decide the outcome of the hearings scheduled in May 2023.
