India’s Nandini Gupta, competing in the 72nd Miss World contest, could not make it to the top 8. The event is being held in Hyderabad this year.
Gupta’s exit ended India’s chance of a win in 2024. If she had won, she would have become the country’s seventh Miss World.
India last won the Miss World title in 2017 with Manushi Chillar. Before her, several big names brought home the crown.
Reita Faria was India’s first Miss World, winning in 1966. Aishwarya Rai followed in 1994, then Diana Hayden in 1997.
Yukta Mookhey claimed the title in 1999, and Priyanka Chopra won in 2000, making it a golden era for India in the pageant.
Fans had high hopes for Nandini Gupta this year. Despite the loss, her journey still inspired many.
