FIR Filed Against Anurag Kashyap Over Brahmin Remark

An FIR has been registered against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap at the Bajaj Nagar police station. The complaint was filed after he made a controversial remark on social media involving the Brahmin community.

The case was lodged by Anil Chaturvedi, a resident of Barkat Nagar, late Saturday night. Police sub-inspector Ram Kripal confirmed that the comment was allegedly abusive.

Kashyap’s upcoming film ‘Phule’, based on social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule, had already stirred conversations around caste. The controversy escalated when Kashyap responded to criticism online and made the now-disputed comment.

The director faced major backlash on social media. Soon after, he issued a public apology on Instagram, saying the line was taken out of context but still caused harm.

He maintained that he wouldn’t retract his words but apologized for the unintended consequences. He also revealed that his family had received threats over the issue.

In another post, Kashyap shared the exact comment that led to the outrage. He urged readers to understand the context before reacting.

Kashyap’s legal troubles now pile on just days before his film’s release, adding more fire to an already heated debate around art and caste representation.
