Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited movie, ‘Punjab 95’, has hit another roadblock. The biopic, based on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, was set for a global release on February 7, 2025. However, unforeseen issues have now delayed the premiere again.
Dosanjh shared the unfortunate news on Instagram, apologizing to fans. He expressed his disappointment, saying, “It pains us to inform you that Punjab ‘95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control.” His followers were quick to empathize, flooding the post with messages of support.
The film has faced hurdles since its announcement. Originally titled ‘Ghallughara’, it was pulled from the Toronto Film Festival lineup in 2023 due to objections from India’s Censor Board. The Board demanded changes to the film’s title, character names, and specific scenes.
Directed by Honey Trehan, the movie stars Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky of ‘Kohrra’ fame alongside Dosanjh. It explores sensitive themes around human rights abuses, making it a bold piece of storytelling.
For now, fans of both Dosanjh and meaningful cinema will need to wait. While no new release date has been announced, the anticipation for ‘Punjab 95’ continues to grow.
This delay adds to the ongoing debate about artistic freedom and censorship in India. Will fans finally get to see the untampered vision of ‘Punjab 95’? Only time will tell.
