Boman Irani has stepped into directing at 65 with his film The Mehta Boys. But for him, it’s no big deal. He believes there’s no fixed age to chase dreams.
Irani, who debuted in acting with Munnabhai M.B.B.S, once worked as a waiter and ran a bakery. He has always wanted to do more—acting, directing, writing—without worrying about age.
He dismisses the notion that one must become an actor at 25 and a director at 35. He says people shouldn’t decide timelines for others. For him, the right time is when one feels ready.
His first film as a director, The Mehta Boys, explores father-son relationships. It was inspired by filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh’s idea and co-written with Birdman writer Alexander Dinelaris.
Irani believes passion drives success. If there’s no desire, there’s no story to tell. He says he enjoys what he does and doesn’t let age hold him back.
With this new role, the seasoned actor has added another feather to his cap. His journey proves that it’s never too late to follow a dream.
