Black and White, Big Screen: 'Second Chance' Breaks the Mold

A black and white indie film with no big stars, ‘Second Chance’ is all set to hit theaters — a rare feat in today’s OTT-driven times. After wowing audiences at top film festivals, this emotionally rich drama is stepping into the spotlight.

Directed by Subhadra Mahajan and shot by her husband Swapnil S Sonawane, the film captures the Himalayan beauty in stunning monochrome. Subhadra chose black and white to keep the focus on emotion, not scenery, especially as the lead character journeys from darkness to light.

Swapnil, known for his work on shows like Sacred Games, says the challenge wasn’t visual beauty, but emotional depth. “Black and white makes its characters’ emotions shine,” he explains.

‘Second Chance’ is about pain, healing, class divides, and a girl’s connection with nature. Subhadra, who grew up in Himachal, drew inspiration from her own life, merging city and mountain tales.

The couple’s own love story blossomed during the film’s making, growing from creative clashes to marriage. While working together wasn’t always smooth, the final product shows their combined strength.

Subhadra is already writing her next story, while Swapnil is gearing up for another film. For them, the power of two turned out to be the real magic behind this mountain of a movie.
