Indian cinema made a mark at the 18th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong. Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ won Best Film, while Shahana Goswami grabbed Best Actress for ‘Santosh’. Director Sandhya Suri also won Best New Director for ‘Santosh’.
The awards ceremony took place at the Xiqu Centre in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. The Asian Film Awards officially announced the winners online.
Kapadia’s film was up against strong contenders from China, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. It previously made history as the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at Cannes.
‘Santosh’ tells the gripping story of a widowed woman who takes up her late husband’s police job. Goswami’s powerful performance stood out among nominees from India, Japan, and South Korea.
Meanwhile, Suri, a British-Indian filmmaker, won against emerging directors from Vietnam, China, and Japan. Her storytelling and direction in ‘Santosh’ impressed the jury.
These big wins highlight India’s growing impact on global cinema. Audiences are now eagerly waiting for both films to reach wider screens worldwide.
