Music legend AR Rahman subtly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding influencer Ranveer Allahbadia. At the audio launch of the film “Chhaava,” Rahman joked about the chaos that follows when people speak without thinking.
Vicky Kaushal, who stars in the film, asked Rahman to describe his music using three emojis. Rahman responded with a closed-mouth emoji, adding, “I think in the past week, we have seen what happens when the mouth opens.” The remark drew laughter from Kaushal and the audience.
This comes amid the backlash against Allahbadia over his comments on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.” The controversy led to the removal of the episode, police complaints in multiple cities, and a call for strict action by the National Commission for Women (NCW).
Raina has since removed all episodes of the show and pledged to cooperate with investigators. Meanwhile, Allahbadia publicly apologized, admitting his words were inappropriate.
The fallout continues as Allahbadia faces professional setbacks, with singer B Praak canceling his appearance on his podcast. Actor Vir Das and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor also criticized the excessive media focus on the issue, questioning other pressing concerns in the country.
Despite the outrage, a few celebrities like Uorfi Javed and Rakhi Sawant have voiced support for Allahbadia and Raina. The controversy has sparked debates on internet regulation, content responsibility, and media priorities.
