Sonu Nigam Hit with FIR After Kannada Song Request Turns Ugly

Singer Sonu Nigam landed in hot water after a recent concert in Bengaluru. A police complaint was filed accusing him of insulting Kannadigas over a comment he made on stage.

The incident happened on April 25 at a local college. During his show, a group from the audience loudly demanded he sing in Kannada, which led to a tense exchange.

In a social media post, Nigam shared his side, saying he felt threatened by a few aggressive boys. ‘They weren’t just demanding a song, they were trying to intimidate me,’ he said.

He also urged people not to blame all Kannadigas for the actions of a few. ‘Kannadigas are beautiful people,’ he added, stressing that the hate came from a small crowd, not the state.

The FIR was filed by a group called Karnataka Rakshana Vedike. They claimed Nigam hurt the community’s cultural pride and even linked them to violence.

Nigam responded that some of the best songs of his career are in Kannada. He said he has always loved Karnataka but was upset by how the demand was made, not the language itself.

The case has sparked debate online with fans split over the issue. While some defend Nigam, others say public figures must choose their words wisely.
