Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is once again in the news—but not for a movie this time. The director says he’s been receiving death and rape threats after a controversial social media comment.
The 52-year-old stirred up outrage after a comment about the Brahmin community. He claims his words were taken out of context and shared a statement on Instagram to clarify.
Kashyap didn’t back down entirely. While offering a partial apology, he insisted he won’t delete the post. He said hate isn’t worth risking anyone’s family or safety.
He also shared a screenshot of his original response, asking people to read the full context before getting angry. “Everyone’s outraged,” he wrote, “but please check the facts first.”
This controversy comes just as his latest film “Phule” prepares for release. The biopic on reformers Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule hits theatres April 25.
The movie’s trailer had already sparked tension. Parts of the Brahmin community felt they were portrayed negatively, adding more fire to the online trouble Kashyap is facing.
