Pierce Brosnan Backs Helen Mirren’s Bond Criticism

Pierce Brosnan, once James Bond himself, agrees with Helen Mirren’s sharp words about the franchise’s history of sexism. Mirren called the spy series “drenched and born out of profound sexism” in a recent interview.

Brosnan, who played Bond from 1995 to 2002, didn’t hold back. “She let them have it. Yes, there’s a certain agreement there,” he said when asked about her comments.

However, he also pointed out that the Bond franchise has its limits. Created by Ian Fleming, the character comes with a certain world that’s hard to change too much.

“There’s a certain world and room to move… but there’s always going to be conflict,” Brosnan said. Basically, Bond can evolve a little—but not completely.

Interestingly, Brosnan and Mirren never talked Bond while filming their new movie MobLand together. Still, Brosnan had high praise for her, calling her “one of the nicest people you’ll ever work with.”

Mirren’s comments came after news broke that Amazon MGM Studios would now steer the franchise. While she had kind words for Daniel Craig, she didn’t hold back on how the series has treated women over the years.
