Indian Filmmakers Shine in BAFTA 2025 Nominations

Indian-origin filmmakers are making waves at the BAFTA 2025 awards. Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light,’ a Golden Globe contender and Cannes winner, has been nominated in the ‘Film Not in the English Language’ category. The film explores urban migration and dislocation and faces tough competition from global entries like ‘Emilia Perez’ and ‘Ainda Estou Aqui.’

London-based filmmaker Sandhya Suri snagged a nomination in the ‘Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer’ category for her intense police thriller, ‘Santosh.’ The film is also the UK’s official Oscar entry this year, adding more excitement to Suri’s stellar year.

Suri isn’t the only Indian-origin filmmaker in this category. Dev Patel’s directorial debut ‘Monkey Man’ earned him a nomination, making him a strong contender. Karan Kandhari adds to the Indian presence with his dark comedy, ‘Sister Midnight,’ starring Radhika Apte.

The annual BAFTA awards ceremony will take place on February 16 at London’s Royal Festival Hall. British actor David Tennant will be hosting the star-studded evening.

Topping the nominations list is the film ‘Conclave,’ a Papal thriller, competing in 12 categories, including best film and best director. Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini have also received acting nods for their roles in the film.

With Indian-origin filmmakers bringing diversity and fresh narratives to the limelight, the competition is fiercer and more inclusive than ever this year.
