Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, aka the ‘Energy Chef of India’, is riding a big wave of fame! Known for turning ‘namak shamak’ into a household catchphrase, Sokhi is now busy filming Season 2 of the hit show Laughter Chef, and later this month, he’ll launch Season 8 of Punjab De Superchef.
Sokhi has been part of fan-favorite shows like Turban Tadka, Maa Ki Dal, and Grand Trunk Rasoi. Talking about Laughter Chef, he says the show connects with fans by bringing joy amidst their worries. The latest season features a mix of returning contestants and new faces like Krishna, Sudesh, and Rubina Dilaik, while social media sensations Abdu Rozik and Elvish have impressed Sokhi with their unexpected kitchen skills.
Before becoming a TV chef, Sokhi kicked off his journey at Centaur Hotel in Mumbai and later honed his skills in Europe. Back home, he explored different cuisines—mastering Hyderabadi flavors from street kitchens to royalty—and built his legacy on TV and in print. Sokhi is also growing his restaurant empire, with his 11th eatery, Karigari, set to open in Connaught Place, New Delhi, and aims to expand to 20 outlets by year-end!
The chef credits his boundless energy to passion and divine blessings. Despite his fame, Sokhi humbly shares that his wife Aparna rules their home kitchen and even contributes dishes to the Karigari menu, along with his mother and mother-in-law, giving a tribute to home chefs.
Sokhi has a soft spot for Chandigarh, calling it a food lover’s dream city. He relishes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights there, citing popular spots like Pal Dhaba and Garg Di Chaat. As he heads to the city for Punjab De Superchef, he’s excited to indulge in winter specialties.
When asked if fans will see him on reality shows like Khatron Ke Khiladi or Bigg Boss, Sokhi keeps things open-ended. “Maybe a Punjabi or Hindi film next,” he teases. With so much on his plate, Chef Sokhi is clearly unstoppable!
