Diljit Dosanjh’s movie “Punjab ’95,” which tells the story of human rights champion Jaswant Singh Khalra, won’t be making its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as planned.

The film was set to be showcased at the Gala Presentations on September 11, but it has been taken off the festival lineup.

The film follows the life of Khalra, who courageously fought against the alleged unjust killings of young Sikhs by the Punjab Police during a period of turmoil.

Originally titled “Ghallughara,” referring to significant Sikh massacres in history, the movie faced a long process of certification and editing before being renamed “Punjab ’95.”

Unfortunately, the festival hasn’t provided an official explanation for the removal of “Punjab ’95” from its schedule.

The film’s director, Honey Trehan, declined to comment. This movie, produced by RSVP Movies, features stars like Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal, and Suvinder Vicky.

Jaswant Singh Khalra’s courageous efforts involved investigating the mysterious cremations of numerous unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994.

His activism led to his disappearance in 1995, and later, four police officers were arrested for his alleged abduction and murder in 2005. The Punjab and Haryana high court extended the officers’ seven-year jail term to life imprisonment in 2007.
